It’s been a long while. I’m doing my portrait studies very slowly but surely. Here are days 31-35!

Pride and Prejudice

The above is Kiera Knightley from Joe Wright’s most excellent adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. I had quite a few attempts at this one. Portrait study is still quite challenging BUT I’m starting to realize that for me, the process essentially translates to distilling the face into shapes and the distance between those shapes. I also studied the lips and the eyes separately from drawing the whole face. If I can take my time and do just that, it results in an effective drawing. See lip and eye studies below.

Pints With Aquinas

The above is Vesper Stamper, an artist who was interviewed by Matt Fradd from Pints with Aquinas. She made a huge impression on me and I drew this right after watching that podcast.

Pardon the see through paper. I use my sketchbook pages back to back and no matter how lightly I draw on these ones, they still show on the other side! It’s Artist’s Loft. Lucian bought it for me thinking it was the watercolour journal I asked for. It pains me to throw it away!
