MONDAY, MARCH 13
I am officially on March Break from the music studio, which affords me some time to catch up on chores, music practice, and hopefully, some drawing. I play at mass this weekend with my group, and I had a piano lesson on Friday with my own teacher, which was good, AND gave me a clear direction as to where to go with my exam pieces.
It is sunny again! We woke up to a slight layer of shining frost covering the tree branches, the grass, the ground. It was so beautiful I forgot about looking forward to spring for a while.
Lucian is off doing another *Super Special Project* which we're all excited about. It gets him going and happy in the mornings, and for that, I'm grateful.
Although I'm on March Break, the kids aren't, as PEI March Break was scheduled to coincide with the Canada Games, which closed two (?) weeks ago. So it's back to school for oldest.
The sun is still out at 6 o'clock. I know people hate on daylight savings, but today, I'm happy for it. :D
My little project:
This is from a photo of my oldest daughter. It was taken at night. After doing my utmost to get the face right, I quite consciously drew everything else knowing that I’ll be layering watercolour, and thus can build values that way as well. I used HB pencil and then 8B for the dark darks. The pencils are Faber-Castell water-soluble graphite.
I’ll leave this for tonight as I’m plenty tired and I haven’t decided yet whether or not to go right in with watercolour or activate the graphite first. I’m pretty sure I’ll activate the graphite on her face first, but apart from that, I have no other plans.
That said...I asked for poly bags...I got poly bags. I found these:
for a fraction of the price I would get them at Staples. Good old corner store.
TUESDAY, MARCH 14
Today was a whilrwind of driving around places, and getting most of our wood inside before the snowstorm hits.
Also, a fun little project, and lots of music practice!!
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15
So, the fun little project dropped! My painter friend Emily (her work is so gorgeous.
Give her website a peep) asked me if I can record myself playing something that moves me. To me, that is a no-brainer. That piece right now is Debussy's
La fille aux cheveux de lin. This piece has been with me a LONG time. I learned it for my Grade 9 RCM exam which I must have taken oh, almost TEN years ago??? (How am I so old lol)
She then listened to it, painted along with it and
here is the beautiful gem that came out of that.
I'm still processing it.
But, I am so thankful for this whole experience, and glad to have been a part of, and have contributed to, the creation of something beautiful.
I practiced a ton today, and tonight, PAINTING.
Hope you all have a wonderful mid-week.
Mikhai
