COMING CLEAN
(Wednesday Feb 8, 2023)
First post!
So, a large part of the reason why I am doing this, is that, although I recognize that social platforms and the internet are an ubiquitous part of modern daily life, I don't want to be immersed in them. I am trying to move away from Instagram and Facebook. I don't want to have my smartphone in my hand all the time. I've tried the password thing (I found out and broke the password my husband put in to lock my apps), I've also tried JUST NOT PICKING IT UP. However, for me, the physical act of touching the phone is in itself addictive, so the only solution is to get rid of it entirely. I am now using a flip phone for my calls and texts, and my computer for business, and to write this. I might shut down my instagram and facebook eventually as you need a smartphone to share stories in IG. So here we are, good old blogger. It's like it's 2012 again in my house.
I must have started ten of these things, but I'm hoping this one will stick. I still want to keep in touch, I still want to see people's work but I also need to not reach for my phone every five minutes.
I might draw a still life today after teaching. I've miraculously sung some, and played some piano. If I accomplish those three things in a day, it's a good day.
Lucian has at least drawn something, an ink and wash:
NO GO
(Thursday, February 10, 2023)
These past few days have been challenging. I'm on the rebound from some sort of illness, no doubt something my son brought home from school. I haven't done much practicing, or drawing. Hoping tonight is the night. I've scored some sweet charcoal pencils and I've really really enjoyed working with them. The values are so good. I enjoy the dark lines, darker than I can get with pencil. I like that you can rub it and soften some edges. I might play with charcoal a while.
I've also been encouraged to play with washing over a grey scale drawing in either charcoal or graphite, so I'm hoping to do that one of these days with charcoal, as I have with graphite, and hopefully, soon.
Later that night...
